carvalho m (plural carvalhos, reintegrationist norm)
From Old Galician-Portuguese carvalho of uncertain origin. Possibly from a local latin *carbālius via a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia. Apparently cognate to Asturian carbayu, carba, Galician carballo, carba, and Spanish carbayo, carvallo/carballo.
