- A former neighbourhood of the city of Montreal, island of Montreal, county of Montreal, district of Montreal, region of Montreal, province of Quebec, Canada; The neighbourhood was mostly demolished to make way for urban redevelopment and downtown highrises during the Quiet Revolution of mid-century Quebec, where francophone elites replaced the anglophone descendants of British conquerors; and as anglophone elites shifted their power base to Toronto and Bay Street from Montreal and St. James St. (rue St. Jacques), in the post-war boom.
