From Middle High German blic, from Old High German blik, from Proto-Germanic *blikaz, *blikkaz (“shine, appearance, look; metal”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleyg-, from *bʰel- (“to shine”).
Cognate with Dutch blik (“look, glance”), Danish blik (“look, glance; tin”), Icelandic blik (“gleam, shine”), Old English blice (“an exposure, manifestation”). More at blick.
