Learned borrowing from Latin Asia, from Ancient Greek Ᾰ̓σῐ́ᾱ (Asíā), from Mycenaean Greek 𐀀𐀯𐀹𐀊 (a-si-wi-ja /aswijaː/), probably from Hittite 𒀸𒋗𒉿 (aš-šu-wa /Aššuwa/) of uncertain origin.
