From พรหม (prom, “Brahma, one of the Hindu supreme gods”) + ลิขิต (lí-kìt, “document; letter; writing”); literally "Brahma's writing"; referring to a mark traditionally believed to be written on a newborn baby's forehead by the god Brahma, specifying the future of the baby. Cognate with Khmer ព្រហ្មលិខិត (prɔɔhmɔɔlikhət) and analogous to Burmese နဖူးစာ (na.hpu:ca).
