Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *maṭṣúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *maćšúš, from Proto-Indo-European *moḱs (“quickly, early”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬊𐬱𐬎 (mošu), Latin mox (“soon”), Irish moch (“early”).
