Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kül- (to laugh); cognate with Azerbaijani gülmək, Bashkir көлөү (kölöw), Chuvash кул (kul), Kazakh күлу (külu), Kyrgyz күлүү (külüü), Turkmen gülmek, Uyghur كۈلمەك (külmek), Uzbek kulmoq and Yakut күл (kül).

  2. (intransitive) to smile, show joy by flexing the muscles of both ends of one's mouth
