Akin to Hebrew עֲדָשָׁה (ʿăḏāšā́), Ugaritic 𐎓𐎄𐎌 (ʿadašu, “lentil”), Akkadian 𒂊𒁲𒋳 (edešu, “bud, sprout”), and Arabic عَلَس (ʕalas, “emmer”). From Proto-Semitic *ʕadaš-, cognate with Proto-Central Chadic *HVdas- (“seed”), Bacama/Bata [Term?] (ḍàsì-to).
