Superficially of the root ب ز م (b-z-m), however a borrowing of Persian ابزین (abzin), اوزین (avzin, “ring; buckle”), which is maybe a suffixation of the same word as بز (baz, “high ground, hill, summit of a mountain”), and easily بَزِيم (bazīm, “a shoot of a plant or frond used to bind vegetable bundles and the bundle itself”), وَزِيم (wazīm, “bundle of vegetables”) are all the same word rather via a meaning of binding or surrounding, then meanings بَزَمَ (bazama, “to take with two fingers”) denominal. Also in Jewish Babylonian Aramaic אבזיינא (ʾaḇzyēnā), אפזיינא (ʾap̄zyēnā, “buckle”), בזיינא (bazyēnā, “buckle, clasp”), Jewish Neo-Aramaic אבזונא (ʾaḇzūnā), Northern Kurdish avzûm, avzûn (“buckle”), Central Kurdish ئاوزوونە (awzûne), ئاوزینە (awzîne, “buckle”), Georgian აბზინდა (abzinda, “buckle”), and in the Armenian invented language Ṙuštuni աբզէդոն (abzēdon, “girdle”). The sound change of trailing ـنٌ (-nun) to ـمٌ (-mun) having happened in Arabic is evidenced by مِيجَم (mījam, “fuller’s beetle”) and كَرْزَم (karzam, “one-sided axe”), see their forms on their pages.
