Tony Kelly (1975 or 1976)^[1] is a photographer from Dublin, Ireland.^[3] Originally working as a news photographer in Ireland,^[4] as of 2020, he was based in Los Angeles and working as a fashion and art photographer.^[5]

Career

Born in Ireland,^[5] Kelly worked as photojournalist while a teenager.^[6] Working for the Independent News Group, he covered the conflict in Afghanistan for several years, before later moving to fashion photography.^[4] In 1996, his photo of a kiss between musicians Bono and Liam Gallagher drew additional exposure and prompted a change in his career.^{[citation needed]}

Kelly subsequently moved to the United States and, as of 2013, he was based in Los Angeles.^[7] His work has been published in magazines like Vanity Fair,^[8] Playboy,^[8] GQ,^[9] and Cosmopolitan.^[10] His work has been described by GQ España as "irreverent and provocative",^[11] and by Photo magazine as "spontaneous and hyper-energetic".^[12] Photo magazine also said that "his flashy style has conquered the world of fashion".^[13]

Kelly has released two books of his work. The first, titled "Tony's Toys", was self-published in 2014.^{[14][full citation needed]} His second book, "Taken! Entertaining Nudes by Tony Kelly", was released in September 2016 by teNeues.^[10] In 2020, Kelly self-published the book "NOWHERE", which was a portrait of Los Angeles during the COVID19 pandemic.^{[citation needed]} A further book, titled "MIAMI", was released in August 2024 by teNeues.^{[citation needed]}
