Tashan (Persian: تشان)[a] is a city in, and the capital of, Tashan District of Behbahan County, Khuzestan province, Iran.[4] It also serves as the administrative center for Tashan-e Sharqi Rural District.[5][b] In July 2013, the village of Mashhad merged with the villages of Ablesh, Chahardahi-ye Asgar, Chahardahi-ye Sohrab, Deh-e Ebrahim, Kalgeh Zar, Masiri, Sarallah, Shahrak-e Taleqani, and Tall Kohneh to form the new city of Tashan.[3]
At the time of the 2006 National Census, the population (as the total of its constituent villages prior to the merger) was 4,608 in 961 households, when it was in Tashan-e Sharqi Rural District.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 4,550 people in 1,141 households.[7] The 2016 census measured the population as 4,281 people in 1,159 households,[2] by which time Mashhad had merged with other villages and was elevated to the status of the city of Tashan.[3]
