State Key Laboratories

The State Key Laboratories (simplified Chinese: 国家重点实验室; traditional Chinese: 國家重點實驗室; pinyin: guójiā zhòngdiǎn shíyànshì) is a critical grouping of university and enterprise research institutions and laboratories receiving funding, administrative support and developmental guidance from the central government of China.^[1]

These labs often specialize in areas such as:

• Chemistry
• Mathematics and Physics
• Geology
• Biotechnology
• Information technology
• Materials science
• Engineering
• Medicine

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, as of 2023, there were 533 State Key Laboratories approved in China.^[2][3]
