History

Thumb
Founder, Madho Rao Scindia I, Maharaja of Gwalior State, r. 1886-1925

Housed in the 300 ft. high hill fortress of Gwalior, the all boys Scindia School was established in 1897 as the Sardar's School by Maharajah Madho Rao Scindia I of Gwalior. The school moved to its present premises on Gwalior Fort in 1908 when the military school was amalgamated, and an endowment fund established. In 1933, the Regency Council felt that the institution would be far more useful to the sardars, the state, and the country if it were run on the lines of an up-to-date public school. It was, therefore, reorganized and renamed the Scindia School. At present the school has Board of Governors, presently headed by Jyotiraditya Scindia, scion of Scindia Dynasty.[5][8]
