It is one of the finest, most expensive and elite school in India. The school's legacy boasts of an illustrious alumni including actors, musicians, business tycoons, politicians, army officers, diplomats and top CEOs.The school structure has an element of classic British Barrack architecture, complete with arches, spandrels, louvers, long corridors and slanting stone roofs. Two East India Company cannons guard the main entrance. The towering sandstone building glistens in the summer sun. It was known as the Sardar's School and catered exclusively for the sons of royals and nobles of Indian princely states. It was only in 1933 that the school opened its gates to boys from all sections of society and was renamed The Scindia School.[5][6] In 2010, the school enrolled 606 students, with a teacher and student ratio of 1:12.[7] The Scindia School is the only institution which has BCCI approved coveted cricket ground for Ranji trophy matches named as Madhav Pavilion.

History

Housed in the 300 ft. high hill fortress of Gwalior, the all boys Scindia School was established in 1897 as the Sardar's School by Maharajah Madho Rao Scindia I of Gwalior. The school moved to its present premises on Gwalior Fort in 1908 when the military school was amalgamated, and an endowment fund established. In 1933, the Regency Council felt that the institution would be far more useful to the sardars, the state, and the country if it were run on the lines of an up-to-date public school. It was, therefore, reorganized and renamed the Scindia School. At present the school has Board of Governors, presently headed by Jyotiraditya Scindia, scion of Scindia Dynasty.[5][8]
