Ryujin (rapper)

Shin Ryu-jin (Korean: 신류진; born April 17, 2001), known mononymously as Ryujin, is a South Korean rapper, singer, and dancer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Itzy, formed by JYP Entertainment in 2019.

Early life

Shin Ryu-jin was born on April 17, 2001, in Seoul, South Korea.[1] While in middle school, she was cast by JYP Entertainment at a Got7 concert.[2] She attended highschool at Hanlim Multi Art School, where she studied Musical Theatre, alongside her groupmate Chaeryeong.[3]

Career

2017: Pre-debut

In 2017, Ryujin appeared on the reality competition MixNine.[4] She also participated on the first episode of Stray Kids, alongside her future groupmates Yeji, Chaeryeong, and Yuna. In the same year, she featured in BTS' "Love Yourself" highlight reel, alongside groupmate Yuna, and appeared in the political crime drama film, The King.[5]

2019–present: Debut with Itzy

On February 12, 2019, Ryujin officially debuted as a member of Itzy, with the release of their first single album, It'z Different, and a music video for the lead single "Dalla Dalla".[6] In June 2022, Ryujin, along with fellow Itzy member Yeji, performed Bebe Rexha's "Break My Heart Myself" in the "Mix & Max" series by Studio Choom.[7] On January 8, 2024, Ryujin released a music video for her solo track "Run Away", a song from Itzy's eighth EP Born To Be.[8]

Philanthropy

On April 12, 2022, Ryujin donated 50 million (US$38,716.27) to The Promise, in support of those affected by the forest fire on the east coast of Gangwon-do.[9] On February 14, 2023, she donated 50 million (US$38,294.74) to the same non-profit organization, in support of those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.[10]
