Perspective

In his debut during the Avengers: Standoff! storyline, Robert oversees Project: Troubleshooter and Todd Ziller's transformation into the American Kaiju.[2] He sends American Kaiju after the New Avengers when they illegally break into S.H.I.E.L.D. to rescue Rick Jones, but is defeated.[3][4]

After Sunspot defeats the Maker, Maverick invites the former to work with the government, hoping that they could cooperate.[5]

Maverick later joins the U.S.Avengers using the Hulk Plug-In, which enables him to transform into a Red Hulk-like form for one hour at a time. The group are later approached by a future equivalent of Captain America who they work with to stop the Golden Skull.[6]

The Red Hulk is later sent to confront and defeat the American Kaiju, who was attacking Europe. During this time, he encounters Deadpool, who had been turned into a monster by the mad scientist Dr. Vandoom. He later encounters Gorilla-Man who attempts to kill him before Squirrel Girl rescues him.[7]

In Secret Empire, Maverick receives a nanite injection from undercover Hydra agent Kyle that will ostensibly increase the duration of his transformations, but is actually intended to control him. After being freed, Maverick is left significantly weakened and with permanently red skin due to Hydra exceeding the time limit of his transformations.[8]

Maverick then assists Smasher and the U.S.Avengers after they find Cannonball on the planet Kral X. They help Cannonball and the planet's rebels in overthrowing the ruler Ritchie. After restoring order to the planet, the heroes head home.[9]

During the "No Surrender" arc, most superheroes are placed in stasis during a contest between the Grandmaster's Lethal Legion and the Challenger's Black Order. Maverick is among the few heroes who escape capture, and utilities the Iron Patriot armor while battling the Hulk before being drained of his gamma energy and fully restored to his human form.[10][11][12][13]

At some point, Maverick got his Hulk Plug-In fixed while being head of security at Eaglestar International. Captain America pointed out that malfunctioning robots that attacked some people were made from Eaglestar International so its CEO Dennis Harmon tricked Maverick into thinking that Captain America's a Life Model Decoy, causing Maverick to activate his Hulk Plug-In and attack Captain America.[14]

Powers and abilities

Robert Maverick is a military tactician.[2]

Using an improved variation of the Hulk Plug-In, he can transform into a Red Hulk who possesses similar abilities to Thunderbolt Ross minus the heat-based abilities and a healing factor.[15]

In other media

Robert Maverick / Red Hulk appears as an alternate skin for Thunderbolt Ross / Red Hulk in Marvel: Future Fight.[citation needed]
