Mango cultivar From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 'Rataul' mango, is a mango cultivar primarily grown in Rataul of Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India.[1][2][3]
Characterized by its greenish-yellow color, this medium-sized mango reveals a luscious orange pulp, with a captivating aroma and offering an very sweet and delicious taste.[4]
Named after its birthplace in Rataul, Uttar Pradesh, the Rataul mango was introduced to Pakistan when migrants from India took its seeds and began cultivating it in Multan.[5]
It was awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) status tag from the Geographical Indications Registry under the Union Government of India on 14 September 2021 (valid until 4 April 2030).[6]
Rataul Mango Producers Association from Rataul proposed the GI registration of the Rataul Mango. After filing the application in 2010, the fruit was granted the GI tag in 2021 by the Geographical Indication Registry in Chennai, making the name "Rataul Mango" exclusive to the mangoes grown in the region.[7] It thus became the second mango variety from Uttar Pradesh after Malihabadi Dussheri Mango and the 34th type of goods from Uttar Pradesh to earn the GI tag.
