Providing support for climate related environmental issues in Nigeria. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) is a World Bank assisted project aimed at addressing the Nigerian gully erosion crisis in Southeastern Nigeria and land degradation in Northern Nigeria on a multi-dimensional scale.[1] This project was born out of the request for assistance made by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to World Bank in 2010. He requested for assistance in tackling severe gully erosion in Southern Nigeria, land degradation in Northern Nigeria and environmental insecurity.[2][3] The project is being monitored by the Federal Ministry of Environment. Some aspects of the project includes erosion and watershed management infrastructure investments, erosion and watershed management institutions and information services and climate change response.[4]
