Naft Maysan Sports Club was founded in 2003 by the Ministry of Oil.[1] In 2009–10 season, the club was playing in the Iraqi Premier League[2] until it relegated to Iraqi First Division League in the 2011 season. But the team returned to play in the Iraqi Premier League after winning the runner-up in the 2012–13 Iraqi First Division League[3] where it remains.
In addition to the club's participation in the Iraqi Premier League and Iraq FA Cup, the club participates in Oil Minister's Cup championship with the clubs belonging to the Ministry of Oil periodically.[4]
