Development
Miley Jab Hum Tum was produced under the Endemol India and the Sunshine Productions, by Sudhir Sharma and Seema Sharma. It tells the story of two sisters, their journey to big city, falling in love during college and developing relations for a lifetime.[3][4]
In 2010, the show took a three year leap, after which new characters were introduced. Producer Sudhir Sharma said, "We’ve done almost 400 episodes and now I feel that we need to revamp it to bring back the enthusiasm we had when we first started. We want the youth to be able to connect with the show. I wouldn’t say that the audience is bored, but as a precaution, it’s better if we give them something fresh."[5][6]
Casting
Rati Pandey and Sanaya Irani were cast as the lead sisters, Nupur and Gunjan.[7][8] Arjun Bijlani and Mohit Sehgal were cast opposite them as the leads, Mayank and Samrat respectively. The show marked Sehgal's acting debut.[9][10] Rohit Khurana was cast as Dhruv, Nupur's obsessive lover, in a cameo.[11]
In 2010, Pandey left the show after her character's death before the leap. But, she re-joined the show in a few months, after the trp declined due to her absence.[12]
Filming
The series is primarily set in Mumbai. Some portions of Excel College were shot at Sophia College for Women, Mumbai. Some scenes were also shot at Kanjurmarg.[13][14]
Reception
Critical reception
Miley Jab Hum Tum is considered among the most popular youth and college dramas. It received positive reviews from the critics and audience.[15] Raya Mehnaz of The Daily Star stated that it became a fan favourite due to its "college setting and engaging storylines" and noted, "Miley Jab Hum Tum while adhering to the western tropes that are common in coming-of-age stories in college settings, also subverted the same tropes in ways that were uncommon."[16]
The Times of India added Pandey and Bijlani in its "Evergreen Romantic Couples" list and said that Nupur and Mayank's sizzling on-screen chemistry took the show to new highs.[17]
Ratings
Miley Jab Hum Tum was the no.1 show of Star One from 2008 to 2009, and often topped the trp charts.[5][18]
