Over the past three decades, Malkerns has evolved from a modest farming village into a hub for tourism, arts, and crafts, making it one of the country’s most celebrated destinations.
Malkerns is renowned for its rich agricultural landscape, which sustains much of Eswatini's food production. The area is not only a haven for farming but also a burgeoning tourist destination, offering a mix of cultural, recreational, and artisanal experiences. Among the lush fields are various guesthouses, riding stables, craft markets, and workshops.
One of Malkerns' most prominent attractions is the Malandela’s Complex, a former family farm that has grown into a key tourist spot. This complex features a restaurant, the Malandela’s Guest House, and the House on Fire, an Afro-Shakespearean Globe Theatre-style venue. House on Fire is the home of the internationally acclaimed MTN Bushfire Festival, a celebrated music and arts event that attracts visitors from around the world. Malandela’s is also the birthplace of Gone Rural, a social enterprise specializing in handwoven crafts. Visitors can tour Gone Rural’s workshop to see the weaving process or visit the rural homesteads of the weavers to learn about their craft firsthand. [2]

-Swazi Candles Centre: Established in 1981 by two South African art graduates, this center began as a small operation in an old dairy shed and has since grown into a world-renowned candlemaking factory. -Baobab Batik: This workshop provides tours that showcase the intricate batik process used to create their unique products.
-Tsandza Weavingb Located near the Usuthu River, this weavery offers tours and hands-on workshops where visitors can learn to weave over 1-3 days.
