Mahibere Kidusan

Mahibere Kidusan (Ge'ez: ማህበረ ቅዱሳን) is an organization with in Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church formed in 1985 by university students and members of Sunday school with the aim to preserve religious tradition during the Derg era. It emerged as powerful association trained by Zeaway Hammer Berehan St.[1][2] They are working with the government offices, including high-ranking political positions. As an educated class, most of Ethiopian diaspora belonged to this group.[3]

The organization opposes the Tehadiso sect, which is detached from the main Orthodox Church teachings.[3] On 21 May 2023, the Ethiopian Media Authority temporarily suspended its television channel (Mahibere Kidusan TV) for alleged inciting religious conflict during a Holy Synod meeting. The Media Authority refused to lift ban on Mahibere Kidusan TV with appeal.[4]
