Lovely Professional University (LPU) is a private state university located in Phagwara, Punjab, India.[2][3] Established under the Lovely Professional University Act, 2005, it commenced operations in 2006.[4][5]

LPU is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Council of Architecture (COA), the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the Bar Council of India (BCI), and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Governance
The university is founded and governed by chancellor Ashok Kumar Mittal, while administration and operations are governed by his wife Rashmi Mittal as the pro-chancellor of the university.[6][7]
Academics
LPU has schools on various subjects including business, fashion design, engineering, law, education, agriculture, humanities, tourism.[8]

The Lovely Professional University is affiliated and recognised by national facilitators such as University Grants Commission (UGC),[9] Pharmacy Council of India,[10] and Bar Council of India.[11][12]
LPU's School of Agriculture is accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.[13] It has accreditations and memberships of National Board of Accreditation (NBA),[citation needed] Council of Architecture (CoA)[14] and National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).[15]
LPU is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.[16]
The distance education programmes are approved by the UGC's Distance Education Bureau.[17]

In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, LPU secured the 38th position nationally. In 2023 NIRF ranked Lovely Professional University 46th overall, and 38th among universities.[33] It also ranked it 32nd in management, 17th in pharmacy, 50th in engineering, 16th in law and 16th in architecture ranking in India.[34]

- Neeraj Chopra - An Indian track and field athlete. Gold medalist at the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, and the Asian Games.[42]
- Manpreet Singh - An Indian field hockey player, Captain of the Indian Hockey Team and a four time Olympian from Punjab.
- Satnam Singh - First Indian professional wrestler drafted into the NBA, contributing to global basketball.
- Mandeep Singh - An Indian cricketer, A right-hand batsman plays for India Blue, North Zone and for teams in the Indian Premier League.[citation needed]
- Varinder Singh Ghuman - Indian professional bodybuilder and actor
- Nishad Kumar - Indian paralympian who won a bronze medal in the men's T47 category at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships.[43][44]
