Indian sword From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kayamkulam vaal (Malayalam: കായംകുളം വാൾ, lit. 'Kayamkulam sword') is a double-edged sword that was used by the rulers and soldiers of the Nair aristocracy (mostly in Travancore), in Kayamkulam, a princely state of India. An example is on display at the Krishnapuram Palace Museum in Kayamkulam.[1]
It is said to have been used by the Kayamkulam Rajas in the 18th century.[2] Some Nair families in Kayamkulam, such the as Evoors Kannampallils, Velathandethus, Padanilathus, Edathittas, Changankulangaras, Thottathils, Valiyakulangaras, Oachiras, and Menatherils, keep Kayamkulam vaal as historical evidence of their lineage.[citation needed]
