By day, KVOI is powered at 10,000 watts. Because 1030 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A station WBZ in Boston, at night, it reduces the power to 1,000 watts. It uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. The transmitter is on North Massingale Valley Road in Marana, near Interstate 10.[3]
KVOI airs a mix of local and nationally syndicated talk shows. Weekdays begin with Wake Up Tucson! Jump In Tucson follows at 9am. Another local show is heard at noon is hosted by Bill Buckmaster. On July 1, 2009, the station swapped formats and call signs with 690 AM in Tucson. AM 1030 became KVOI.[4] Meanwhile, AM 690 became KCEE.
