Ikpe Ikot Akwa is one of the 74 villages of Etim Ekpo local government area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria[1] and bounded by Nkwot Ikono, Utu Ikot Nkor, Ikot Obioma, Ikot Akpan Nsek and Ikot Odongo. Belonging to Ikono clan; it is one of the 15 villages in the clan. Ikpe Ikot Akwa village houses the notable Obo Ikpe market.

History

The settlement began officially around the late 1800s.

Religion

Two major religion; Christianity and pegan worshiping, but the former is dominant. Christian worshippers have some notable churches including; Qua Iboe church, Catholic church, The apostolic church, Christ faith church, etc.

Families

Ikpe Ikot Akwa comprises several families, including Ikot Akwa family and Nto Uba family. This constitutes a structure for fair distribution and also, classifying residents into distinct ancestral origin.

Economy

The residents of Ikpe Ikot Akwa is mostly engaged in livestock and crop farming majorly cassava and oil palm. Plantain farming has recently gained much attention due to their economic and dietary benefits. Some educated residents are in the civil service.
