"I Need Somebody' is an up-tempo dance–pop song influenced by disco music,[2] and was Bardot's first song to be included on the ARIA Dance Singles Chart.[3] It gained a positive reception with one critic comparing it to the dance–pop stylings of Kylie Minogue.[4] The music video was filmed at a mansion in Sydney, directed by Simon Bookallil.[2]
"I Need Somebody" debuted at number 8 on the Australian singles chart,[1] their highest debut since "Poison" (2000). It eventually peaked at number 5, becoming Bardot's third top-five single.[1] It spent a total of 14 weeks in the top 100[5] and was certified gold.[6]
On the ARIA Dance Singles Chart, "I Need Somebody" debuted at number 1.[3]
"I Need Somebody" was the 59th highest selling single in Australia for 2001 and the fourth highest selling single by an Australian artist that year.[7]
