Datemombetsu Station opened on 20 August 1925.[1] With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR Hokkaido.[1]
In fiscal 2011, the station was used by an average of 1,219 passengers daily.[citation needed] The passenger figures for previous years are as shown below.[citation needed]
