Daniel Porter Jordan Jr. (July 22, 1938[1] – March 21, 2024) was an American historian.

Jordan was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi. He attended the University of Mississippi, earning a bachelor's degree in 1960 and a master's degree in history in 1962. He also attended the University of Virginia, studying under Merrill D. Peterson and earning his PhD degree in 1970.[2]
Jordan was a history professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.[2]
Jordan was president of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation[3][4] from 1985 to 2008.
