Perspective
The story begins with the birth of two sisters born on the same day: Regina and Roberta, both daughters of Roberto Gamba (Sebastián Rulli) but from different mothers. While Regina is the legitimate daughter of Roberto and his wife Regina Soberón de Gamba (Julieta Rosen), Roberta is Roberto's illegitmate daughter with his mistress Josefina Álvarez Martínez (Rocío Banquells). A year after their births, Roberto tells Josefina that he is not going to leave his wife and daughter for her. Josefina, full of rage, causes Roberto's death by pushing him against a glass door when he was having a heart attack. She decides to kidnap Regina's daughter as revenge to make Regina suffer. Josefina flees with the two girls and hides in a village where she claims the girls are her twin daughters and becomes the lover of the municipal president. Josefina gets the girls fake birth certificates which list their father as unknown and gives them both her surnames, she also changes baby Regina's name to Renata. Regina is left shattered and grieving over the loss of her daughter and husband.
Years later, Josefina marries millionaire Gonzalo Monterrubio (René Casados), who adopts her daughters and raises them as if they were his own, alongside his biological son, Matías. Josefina was never able to love Renata the way she loves Roberta and regrets taking her from her birth mother.
As adults, Renata (Silvia Navarro) and Roberta (Jessica Coch) have taken different paths. While Renata is educated and works for their father's company, the Monterrubio Corporation, Roberta is shallow and lives off of her family's wealth. Roberta is in a secret relationship with Rafael Guttiérrez de la Fuente (Sebastián Zurita), a former employee of the Monterrubio Corporation. Rafael wanted to prove to Roberta that he was capable of providing her with the kind of life she was accustomed to, and had resigned from the Monterrubio Corporation a year earlier to become the new owner of a very successful vineyard in Ensenada called "La Bonita," his nickname for Roberta. Rafael is madly in love with Roberta, who does not return his feelings, but enjoys the attention and care he gives her. Rafael proposes to Roberta, who accepts but is reluctant to tell her family. Josefina knows about the relationship and is determined to put a stop to it so she kills Rafael and then makes Roberta believe that Rafael left her. Meanwhile, Rafael's friends and employees believe Rafael died by suicide because he was rejected by a woman.
Rafael's beloved half-brother, Jerónimo Linares de la Fuente (Juan Soler) is a successful businessman who lives in Spain and travels to Mexico to ask for Roberta's hand in marriage on Rafael's behalf. Jeronimo has never met Roberta and only knows her as "La Bonita." At the airport, Jerónimo has an encounter with Renata and is immediately captivated by her beauty. Upon arriving at his brother's ranch, he is devastated to learn of his brother's death. Jeronimo finds a photo of Roberta, with Renata in the background, and on the back there is a note signed by "R." Jeronimo believes "R" is "La Bonita," the woman responsible for Rafael's death. Jerónimo swears to avenge his brother's death by seducing, marrying, and subsequently making life unbearable for "La Bonita".
At first, Jerónimo believes (correctly) that "La Bonita" is Roberta. However, through a series of misunderstandings, along with Josefina's deceitful machinations, Jerónimo is pointed in Renata's direction as "La Bonita." Jeronimo sweeps Renata off her feet and she falls in love with him. Jeronimo and Renata marry and move onto the ranch. Jeronimo immediately becomes cold towards Renata, who is confused by her husband's sudden change of personality.
Jeronimo believes Renata is deceiving him, when in reality Renata never tells him any lies. Fate and time will prove him wrong, but in the meantime Jeronimo begins to lose Renata's love because of his mistreatment of her. When Renata discovers Jeronimo's true intentions, she leaves him. As time passes, Renata and Jerónimo get back together. When Renata agrees to marry Jerónimo again she finds out that she is pregnant. When it is time for the wedding, Jerónimo disappears. Renata thinks he has left her, but she finds out he was kidnapped by Agustín Dunant. Renata goes to Ensenada to find Jeronimo is also kidnapped by Agustín. Jerónimo escapes and tries to look for her. Renata is on Agustín's ship "El Renacer." Jeronimo comes aboard and fights Agustín in a sword fight. Jerónimo manages to defeat Agustín, who dies. Jeronimo and Renata are reunited and can finally live happily ever after. They go on to have five children, three girls and two boys, and their oldest boy is named Rafael.
