The Crimson Cowl is an identity used by different fictional characters appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
The first incarnation of Crimson Cowl, created by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema, first appeared in The Avengers #54 (July 1968).[1][2] Ultron posed as the original Crimson Cowl with Edwin Jarvis as a brainwashed body double in order to lead his version of the Masters of Evil.[3]
The second incarnation of Crimson Cowl, created by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley, debuted in Thunderbolts #3 (June 1997).[4] Justine Hammer accumulated power for herself as the second Crimson Cowl to lead her own version of the Masters of Evil,[5][6] and even framed Dallas Riordan as a set-up to throw off her trail.[7] She's later the new Iron Monger on the behalf of Roxxon and A.I.M.[8]
A similar character, the Commander Crimson, appears in the alternate Ultimate Marvel continuity. Sayuri Kyota was an ex-agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who was the leader of a terrorist cell of Hydra. She fought the Ultimates as she used an Infinity Gem which disintegrated her.[9]
