Curtis is a pollster by profession and worked as a Political Research Manager for YouGov.[5] He was a political researcher for them in 2017.[6] He was also Head of Political Polling at Opinium Research.[7]

In 2022, he alleged his former employer had stopped him from publishing the findings of a survey following a TV debate during the 2017 election campaign.[8] He clarified his position after YouGov founder Nadhim Zahawi was forced to deny he had wielded any influence.[9] Prior to being elected to Parliament, Curtis worked for think tank Labour Together.[10]
