Calvin Verdonk

Calvin Ronald Verdonk (born 26 April 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a left-back or centre-back for Eredivisie club NEC. Born in the Netherlands, he represents the Indonesia national team.

Club career

Feyenoord

Verdonk is a youth exponent from Feyenoord. He signed his first professional contract with the club on 24 April 2014 agreeing a three-year deal.^[2] He made his Eredivisie debut at 8 March 2015 against Excelsior Rotterdam replacing Lucas Woudenberg after 73 minutes in a 3–0 home win.^[3] On 11 November 2015, he extended the contract to mid-2020.^[4]

PEC Zwolle (loan)

On 24 May 2016, Verdonk joined PEC Zwolle on a season-long loan deal.^[5]

NEC (loan)

On 2 August 2017, Verdonk was loaned to NEC Nijmegen until the end of the season.^[6]

Twente (loan)

On 16 August 2019, Verdonk was loaned to Twente until the end of the 2019–20 season.^[7]

Famalicão

On 11 September 2020, Verdonk joined Famalicão in Portugal on a four-year contract.^[8]

Return to NEC

On 30 August 2021, Verdonk returned to NEC on a season-long loan.^[9] On 6 July 2022, NEC made the transfer permanent by purchasing his rights.^[10]

International career

Verdonk was a youth international for the Netherlands, and made his first appearance at under-17 level.^[11]

In April 2024, Verdonk confirmed that he had decided to represent Indonesia at international level.^[12] On 10 June 2024, he was called up for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers match against Philippines.^[13] On 11 June 2024, he made his debut for the Indonesia national team in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Philippines in a 2–0 win.^[14]

Personal life

Born in the Netherlands, Verdonk is of Indonesian descent.^[15]

On 4 June 2024, Verdonk officially obtained Indonesian citizenship.^[16]
