The trophy was established in 1964 after a two-boat transat ‘race’ back to Europe from the US. It was originally given for a more traditional yardstick – the greatest distance covered in 24 hours.
The trophy is a silver replica of the "Boston Tea Pot" kept at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.[3] The size of the replica is approximately 30 cm high and 15 cm in diameter.
The sailing ship awarded the trophy keeps it on board for one year.
