The Bogazi naval base (Ναυτική βάση Χρυσούλη), was created in September 1964 shortly after the introduction of the Cypriot National Guard and the Battle of Tillyria named after the Executive Officer of the ship Phatheon that was killed.[2]
During the 1974 coup d'état, a ship was sent from the Chrisouli naval base to Pafos.[3]
After the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the base fell to the Turkish Armed Forces and has since then operated as a navy base for Turkish Naval Forces.[4]
In 2019, it was reported that Turkey intended to upgrade its base in Bogazi and however as of 2023, little progress had been made.[5][6]
