Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim

Azrinaz Mazhar binti Hakim Mazhar (born 23 September 1979) is a Malaysian-born former media personality and journalist who worked as a reporter for the first private television network in Malaysia, TV3. She was also formerly Pengiran Isteri (Princess Consort) Azrinaz Mazhar and previously the third wife of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the 29th Sultan of Brunei.

In this Malay name, there is no surname or family name. The name Hakim Mazhar is a patronymic, and the person should be referred to by their given name, Azrinaz Mazhar. The word "bin" or "binti"/"binte" means 'son of' or 'daughter of', respectively.

Education and career

Azrinaz Mazhar, who also goes by Naz, was a Broadcasting Diploma major at the Malaysian Institute of Integrative Media (MIIM) and graduated in 1997. She worked as Broadcast Reporter Executive for TV3 in 1999. She appeared in Buletin Pagi TV3 (Morning Bulletin), Berita Terkini (Breaking News), and Buletin 1.30 (1:30PM Bulletin).

She was honoured as TV3's Wartawan Harapan in 2000 and also received the MIIM Alumni Award in 2002. She left TV3 in May 2005.^[1]

Personal life

Azrinaz was married to Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, at a private ceremony attended by family members and close friends at the Istana Sultan Brunei (Sultan of Brunei's Palace) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 20 August, 2005. The marriage was a heavily guarded secret and was only leaked to the press much later by one of the guests. She became the third wife of the king. She was given the title HRH Princess Consort (Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Isteri) Azrinaz Mazhar.^[2] On June 1, 2006, she gave birth to Prince Abdul Wakeel. The pregnancy itself was also kept secret. A 21-cannon salute was fired at the vicinity of the Istana Nurul Iman to celebrate the birth. On January 28, 2008, she gave birth to Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.^[1] Azrinaz was divorced by the Sultan of Brunei through a special announcement on June 16, 2010. Upon the announcement, her royal title, state decorations and medal of honour were withdrawn,^[3] but her children retain their titles.

Azrinaz married for a second time on 1 May 2018, to Fairos Khan Abdul Hamid. Their solemnisation ceremony took place at her house and attended by family members and close friends.^[4]

Azrinaz Mazhar was born on 23 September 1979 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is the second child of Hakim Mazhar bin Mohammad Johar and Fauziah binti Abdullah Mansoor.

She has four children, two with former husband Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, and two with her current husband, Fairos Khan Abdul Hamid.
