The soundtrack was composed by Shankar–Ganesh and Ilaiyaraaja composed one song "Sangathil Paadatha".[2] The lyrics for all songs were written by Pulamaipithan. Except "Sangathil Paadatha" which was composed by Ilaiyaraaja, rest of the songs were composed by Shankar–Ganesh.[3][4] The songs "Malare Enna" and "Kannil Vannam" is based on "Naliva Gulabi" and "Nanna Aase" from Kannada film Auto Raja.

Ilaiyaraaja re-used the tune "Sangathil Padatha" in Malayalam, Telugu (including its Tamil dubbed version), and Hindi films. The song was re-used in the Malayalam film Olangal at the request of Balu Mahendra as "Thumbi Vaa",[5] Mahendra's 1986 Telugu film Nireekshana as "Aakasham Eenatido" and next in Kanne Kalaimaane, the dubbed version of Nireekshana, as "Neerveezhchi Thee Muttuthey".[2][6] Mahendra loved the tune so much that he insisted having the tune again in his 1996 Hindi film Aur Ek Prem Kahani in the song "Monday To Uth Kar". It was also used in the 2009 Hindi film Paa as "Gumm Summ Gumm".[7]
