Arrondissement of Ancenis

The arrondissement of Ancenis is a former arrondissement of France in the Loire-Atlantique department in the Pays de la Loire region. In January 2017 it was merged into the new arrondissement of Châteaubriant-Ancenis.^[1] At the time of the merger, it had 24 communes.^[1] Its population was 61,457 (2012).^[2]

History

The arrondissement of Ancenis was created in 1800, disbanded in 1926 and restored in 1943.^[3] It was disbanded in 2017.^[1] As a result of the reorganisation of the cantons of France which came into effect in 2015, the borders of the cantons are no longer related to the borders of the arrondissements.
