Anowara (Bengali: আনোয়ারা), also written Anwara, is an upazila of Chattogram District in Chattogram Division, Bangladesh. Located along the Karnaphuli River and near the Bay of Bengal, Anwara holds strategic and economic importance due to its proximity to the port city of Chattogram—the second-largest city and the commercial capital of Bangladesh

Anwara is located at 22.2167°N 91.9111°E. It has 319,482 households [citation needed] and a total area of 164.13 km2.[4]

As of the 2022 Census of Bangladesh, Anwara Upazila had a population of approximately 319,482, showing significant growth from previous decades. The number of households remains recorded at 49,966, though this figure may not yet reflect updated enumeration. The population density of the upazila is estimated at around 1,900 people per square kilometer. The sex ratio in 2022 was approximately 1,016 females per 1,000 males, indicating a slight decline from the 2011 ratio of 1,044.
While upazila-specific age group data for 2022 has not been officially published, regional trends show a decline in the proportion of children under 10 years, estimated at around 18.86% for Chattogram District, compared to Anwara’s 25.49% in 2011. The literacy rate has also seen a substantial increase. Although precise figures for Anwara are not yet released, the literacy rate in Chattogram District rose to 81.06%, suggesting that Anwara's rate has also improved notably from the 51.95% recorded in 2011. Anwara Upazila is subdivided into 11 union parishads—Anowara, Bairag, Barakhain, Barasat, Burumchhara, Battali, Chatari, Haildhar, Juidandi, Paraikora, and Roypur—which are further organized into 85 mauzas and 81 villages Wikipedia. As of the most recent available data, the key elected posts remain unfilled: the Chairman, Member, Vice Chairman, and Woman Vice Chairman positions are all listed as vacant Wikipedia. Regarding parliamentary representation, the constituency that includes Anwara was previously designated as Chittagong‑12, which had been represented by Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Zabed of the Awami League during the 9th and 10th Jatiya Sangsad (2009–2014 and 2014–2024) . He took office following the passing of his father, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, in a by-election and later served as Minister of Land until August 6, 2024. The Chittagong‑12 seat became vacant on August 6, 2024, and as of now is unrepresented in parliament
