Controversies
2023 Suspension and Apology Over Election Code Violation
Anjani Kumar aced a significant controversy in December 2023. During the assembly election vote counting process, he met Congress leader Anumula Revanth Reddy at his residence, which was perceived as a violation of the model code of conduct. The Election Commission of India (ECI) suspended Kumar for this action, citing misconduct and a breach of election norms.[14]
Kumar acknowledged his mistake, offered an unconditional apology, and provided a voluntary undertaking not to repeat such misconduct. The ECI accepted his apology and revoked the suspension, instructing the state government to issue a warning about his conduct. Additionally, the ECI decided that Kumar would not be associated with any future election-related assignments.[15]
