For the first time, clubs were split into two divisions − A Section and B Section.[4] No promotion and relegation system was in place, with the top four teams from each division playing in a combined finals series.[5][6]
University B won the MAFA premiership for the second time and the second year in a row, defeating Collegians in the 1922 MAFA Grand Final.[7][8]
Association membership
South Yarra left the MJFA following the end of the 1921 season.[9] Old Brightonians, which had failed to win a single game in 1921, also withdrew prior to the start of the 1922 season.[10][11]
Four new clubs − Black Rock, Elwood, Melbourne Shipping Company and Murrumbeena − entered the MJFA.[12][13] Melbourne Shipping Company disbanded on 17 July 1922, and its remaining games were treated as walkovers.[13][14][15]
