Pseudonymous England-based graffiti artist, political activist, and painter / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TSA is a pseudonymous street artist, political activist, author and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation.[2] Active since 2022, the artist's satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humor with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. TSA's works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls, and bridges throughout the world.[3] The artist's work grew out of the graffiti scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians.[4] TSA says that they were inspired by Banksy and 3D.[5]
In 2022 TSA declared they were non-binary and has chosen to be referred to in gender-neutral terms, expressing a lack of preference for pronouns. The artist prefers being referred to using the they/them pronouns, and stated they do not want to be pigeonholed and branded as a "female artist" or a "male artist."[6]
TSA displays their art on publicly visible surfaces such as walls and self-built physical prop pieces. The artist does not sell photographs or reproductions of their street graffiti, but his public "installations" are regularly resold against the artist's intentions, often even by removing the wall they were painted on.[6] TSA's documentary film The Secret Ape Vs. The Vatican (2022) made its debut at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.[7] In January 2023, the artist was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for the film.[8] In 2024, the artist was awarded Person of the Year at the 2024 Webby Awards.[9]
