The 2008 season was tied for the 6th most active season on record. 16 named storms formed, in which 8 became hurricanes and 5 became major hurricanes. 2008 is the first time that a major hurricane existed every month from July to November. Notable storms include Gustav, Ike, and Paloma, all of them retired. Other noteworthy storms include Hanna, which caused 537 deaths in Haiti and Fay, which made 4 landfalls in Florida, and caused torrential rain. The season caused about $42.3 billion (2008 USD) in damages, with Ike causing $32 billion (2008 USD) in damages alone, and 855 deaths.
