Jefferson is currently being investigated by the FBI in connection with a corruption scandal. An FBI raid of his officesābelieved to be the first FBI raid on a congressional office everāsparked controversy over separation of powers and the rights of Congress. In response to these allegations, the House Democratic Caucus voted to present a proposal for Jefferson's removal from the Ways and Means Committee to the full House, which then removed Jefferson from the committee.
