Yatani served as the First Governor of Marsabit County from 2013 to 2017, was the Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna from 2009 to 2012,[2] and served as the Member of Parliament for North Horr Constituency in 2006.[3] In 2019 he served as the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection.[4] In 2020 he was named Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury.[5]
