While the network had carried programming targeting teen and adult audiences during the prime time and late night hours since its inception, Teletoon first established formal brands for such programming—The Detour on Teletoon and Teletoon Unleashed—in October 2002. In 2004, the "Unleashed" brand was dropped, with the Detour branding used for the entirety of the block
It was similar in format to Adult Swim, a late-night programming block that aired on Cartoon Network, from which the block acquired most of its programming. Teletoon would later launch a Canadian version of Adult Swim as part of its own Cartoon Network channel in 2012; the two blocks operated in parallel, although most Adult Swim original series would later migrate to the new channel, and Teletoon at Night's acquired content would focus on non-Adult Swim series and animated sitcoms, as well as films.
In 2019, the block was discontinued in favour of the new Adult Swim channel. The block's French counterpart, Télétoon la nuit, continues to air on sister network Télétoon.[1]
