The Website is in the following link[] .Venkat.athma (talk) 11:18, 20 December 2010 (UTC) This article has little detail on his scientific achievements. A discussion of a few of his major publications and their contribution to plant science would add greatly to the article. TimVickers 16:12, 28 February 2007 (UTC) This article is more detailed than one would expect on Wikipedia. It is already well documented and more than this would hardly add to the overall importance of the person. He is a globally recognized scientist and one of the few who clearly need little introduction. We may agree or disagree with his contribution and its impact. But no one denies that it was huge. One of the very few Indians to have made it to the Time cover page.
I removed fair use image Image:Perez_de_cuellar.gif, removed deleted Image:Pov.jpg. I also removed link to a wikibook Information_and_Communication_Technologies_for_Poverty_Alleviation as it is not authored by Swaminathan and may be considered as a publicity drive (though from a free source) here.--Victor D PARLE 02:34, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
The external link given by some is a propaganda site. There were several such sites which were banned by the govt fr spreading hatredness. ~rAGU
This article needs some serious vetting for neutrality. It is getting close to advertisement. Swaminathan is certainly quite capable, but he doesn't walk on water. Michaelbusch (talk) 07:30, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
I think its more a problem of "Indian style" writing, with its flowery language and excessive use of superlative adjectives. I will try to clean some of it up. Sanyasi (talk) 08:24, 18 March 2009 (UTC) OK, I give up. Its pathological. Sanyasi (talk) 08:48, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
Every prominent person has a few detractors. Swaminathan has survived controversies. His legacy will unlikely be subject to the contributions made by Wikipedia only. Like several other pieces where neutrality has been an issue, this one is most undesirable use of "lacks neutrality" tag. It should be removed from this article and Wikipedia should also consider creating a better governance structure for such anomalies rather than someone's whim put the "lacks neutrality" tag on it.
I agree with the above statement from anonymous, the neutrality tag can be removed. Just navigated to this page and it seems to read fine compared to several biographical pages I've just been reading. The tag is more distracting than helpful or instructive. Ebenheaven (talk) 05:37, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
The scientific impact of Swaminathan can be deduced from his impact in the scientific literature. Science Citation Index lists a total of 1281 citations to a total of 204 listed publications and an h-index [measure of scientific impact] of 19 (retrieved Jan. 8th, 2011). While this does not call into questions his other contributions, notably against hunger, it does certainly not support the view that he had a great impact on science. The idea of planting trees as windshields in coastal areas post tsunami came from some foresters in the Tamil Nadu Forest Department (TNFD). This idea had been tried earlier, but failed due to violent opposition from the fishing community: who reside and dry their nets and catch in the coastal areas, which were marked for plantation. Post tsunami the idea was revived, through newspaper articles written by forest officers in English dailies.A project plan was drafted by a rural management professional and a forest officer, working through an TNFD supported NGOthe Society for Social Forestry Research and Development, Tamilnadu. This project went through the bureaucratic channels, was officially sanctioned - and funded by the World Bank, through an ongoing project around tsunami reconstruction in the year 2005. Due to the experiential realisation that mangrove plantations actually protected coastal villages, and good village extension work by the foresters working with the fishing community villages, this project was implemented successfully. All these documents would be available from the archives of SSFRDT, TNFD and the World Bank aided tsunami project. Dr.M.S.Swaminathan has had a lot of successful accomplishments: and deserves the greatest respect. But the idea of planting trees as a coastal windshield post tsunami cannot be credited to him. I hope there would be no objection if this particular statement is removed from the list of notable achievements. Anant (talk) 09:57, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

There's a lot of references, which is great. Problem is that it looks like little more than a bunch of lists. Convert this article to actual qriting and it could be a GA relatively easily. Had to rate it start thoguh.--Wizardman 15:40, 28 February 2007 (UTC) |

Chris Capoccia; Hi, please could you help me understand some changes you made to references under 'further reading':
Is this just making the references less text and link heavy, and removing links to urls with limited access and urls which do not adequately show that they have permission to host the content? However, some of the links you have added are not very helpful such as the new links for Quinns article in Current Science. DTM (talk) 05:40, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
As of now, Commons has only 2-3 images which can be used as an infobox image.
