Shemysheysky District

Shemysheysky District (Russian: Шемыше́йский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southeastern central part of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,688 square kilometers (652 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Shemysheyka.[1] Population: 17,661 (2010 Census);[3] 19,063 (2002 Census);[7] 22,714 (1989 Soviet census).[8] The population of Shemysheyka accounts for 36.9% of the district's total population.[3]
