Prior to this, he was the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), where he also served as UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative. Before that Lazzarini held senior positions in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
