Makaryevsky District (Russian: Мака́рьевский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Kostroma Oblast, Russia. It is located in the south of the oblast. The area of the district is 4,850 square kilometers (1,870 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the town of Makaryev.[1] Population: 10,424 (2021 Census);[7] 15,968 (2010 Russian census);[3] 19,523 (2002 Census);[8] 24,900 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of Makaryev accounts for 53.0% of the district's total population.[3]
