It comes from the Irish name Méabh, which was spelt Meadhbh in Early Modern Irish (pronounced [mʲɛɣv]),[2] Meḋḃ or Meaḋḃ in Middle Irish, and Medb in Old Irish (pronounced [mʲeðv]).
